can any one help me as i am struggling to get my head around the scart lead set up . the way i have it now sends the picture quality terrible when i power up dvd , any other way i have tried just records a blank disc. need to copy them to disc for my old man who cant afford sky and is to old to get to games . please help . cheers

The way I've got it set up is one scart from the Sky box to the TV, the other scart from the Sky box to the DVD recorder (on my dvd its the AV2 input)



On the DVD box set the recording source to be AV2 (or whatever yours is) and you should be good to go.

What he said. That's exactly my set up and although you do lose a bit of quality in the picture (especially when recording HD) it's fine.



Also a quick question. If I used an HD lead from my sky to my DVD recorder, to record in HD would I need "special" discs?

You cannot copy in HD. HD programmes are copied in standard definition quality only.

You'd need a HDMI input on the recorder unfortunately

Mine works great and why bother with HD...as long as i can see picture then thats ok with me...also can put sky + on a tape as well

I do Sky+ to DVD via S-Video and separate audio cable. Great quality.

Why bother with improving picture quality? Are you really asking that?

Can i conect my sky box to my laptop and copy it this way using the hdmi cable.

It's probably no better in colour than it would be in black and white either, but that's not really the point.

use the usb connection and copy onto laptop then use convertex to copy on dvd

It's a shame they don't make a Sky+HD Blu-Ray Disc Recorder box. They'd probably ship for about £1,000.

YOu can buy blue ray recorders now, that would do it I think. About £800

This would allow you to stream straight to a pc/laptop/media recorder with appropriate capture software.



My dvd recorder has a HDD so it makes it easier plus I can do basic video editing on it.



If you have a SKY HD box then you could get hold of a video capture card with HDMI input and do it that way. Does a SKY HD box have a USB Port?

I'm guessing your laptop's HDMI port is OUT only, so I'd say no... Might be wrong tho
