Personally I would head towards the M6 then M74 and across on the M8. Have been the A1 route before and came back M6 and found it lots quicker.

I'm staying in Edinburgh for the weekend. Realistically, it is too far to go for one day (having learned the lesson from the Harlequins away match last year). Plus, if anyone is visiting this amazing city for the first time, trust me, you need more than a day to see its wonders.

If you want a nice amble, go the A1.

If you just want to get there - go West young man!

Do the trip often,

use A1 to Newcastle then turn off at Newcastle airport toward the A68 signposted Jedbourgh shorter and a nice drive up.

On average I find the A1 route is about 20 miles longer and 30 mins quicker but the A68 route is a lot more picturesque.

A68 a slow road in a big car, been that way a few times and if you get behind owt slow then your stuffed, only picturesque view i wanna see is the scoreboard with us winning
