Jinkin Jimmy, the link is quite simple.
O'Loughlin hadn't played a game of SL since May. And in my opinion he was as poor as most others on Sunday, not least in the leadership department where Wigan were left sadly lacking.
He ought to have started the game on the bench with Tomkins in the first XIII. Make him earn his place back in the starting line-up and regain his match fitness, for this level, gradually.
That's in my humble opinion, of course. And we're all entitled to one of those.

Do you seriously believe that Tomkins is a better player than Lockers? From what I can gather Lockers has been our best forward in the pre-season. |

I think the fair thing would be to have them both in the starting line up. Tomkins on the place he earned last season and OLoughlin from good pre-season performances.
I dont think its fair to say Tomkins should keep OLoughlin out of the team/on the bench etc. But at the same time Tomkins doesnt deserve to lose his starting place on the basis of what was seen last year. |

Only two players - Mathers and kick-mad Smith - made less average metres per carry according to the official stats. His offensive game was poor.
All players can be assessed, you know. There are no exceptions, even Andy Farrell's brother-in-law, and I don't see why he should go under the radar.
Having said all that, I concede that it was his first starting appearance since May and that he'll take time to get back into it at this level.
Again, it comes down to team selection. Did Joel Tomkins really deserve to be on the bench after the way he finished last season ? I think not.'"
When you hand-pick statistics to suit your arguement it makes them even less valid. For example why didn't you include try assists? |
