| Quote Toadstool="Toadstool"Statements like this are a disgrace to Leigh RL.
Billy Boston is one of the finest rugby players ever to grace the game and a true gentleman as well.
It is not his fault that you are peeved that he has been asked to attend and to suggest booing him is ridiculous. It is an honour for him and his family and there is no way he should be expected to turn it down.
Grow up
'"
Mr Boston could be the patron saint of rugby league and able to beat St Helens, Wigan and Leeds singlehandedly...what that has to do with him being invited to the opening of the stadium I have no idea...
Not his fault that he has been invited of course. And it would of course be ironic booing.

| The council will do whatever they like no matter what we think, I'm almost past giving a s#!t to be honest.
The LSV has been open for a good 12 months anyway so I really don't see the point in the Queen coming up for a look and to "open it officially".
Am I still allowed to go to the gym that day seeing as I pay my membership?

| Its a take from the council but with a level head and playing devils advocate.........[iLSV is part of Wigan MBC [/i(paid for by a developer but lets not let that spoil their party for a moment).
So from that point of view it makes sense to have one of the Boroughs most famous sporting legends to be present at its opening. We're 'a village in Wigan', dont forget.
But be honest, the Queen is coming to town to open LSV. Not Keith Chegwin or Edwin Starr (though he;d have a job) Its the Queen.
Who would the Corpy invite otherwise? Timmy Street? Parky Pig? Wally?
Tommy Sale and club reps will be there of course, but no disrespect to the likes of Woody or Drummond - they're not in the same league on a [iregional[/i level, and truth be known are nigh on never seen round the club anyway.

He was more famously spotted at Hilton Park during a Leigh-Wakefield game

| I don't understand what all the fuss is about regarding the Queen's visit.
If Billy Boston wants to meet Dale Winton, then who are we to argue??

I agree with that quartet but let's also not forget the guy who presided over those glory days and who still eats, sleeps and drinks Leigh rugby - Brian Bowman .
I think that someone at W*g*n Council has made another c*ck up as the instruction probably went out - " .. and don't forget to send out the invite to B B". Doh !
Billy Boston was a great player and has been a wonderful ambassador for the sport but - assuming the information is correct - it is completely wrong for a W*g*n player to be officially involved on such an occasion.
Over to you, Lord Smith. Please ensure that these five are OUR representatives on the big day.
